Education :

1996-1999: Katholieke Hogeschool Mechelen, HAM,

Communication, option Press

During these three years we had to follow two trainee periods. The second year I worked for BELGA, the Belgian national press agency. My tasks were to write articles and to report press conferences. The third year I followed a trainee period at ‘Beeldhuis’ Kessel-Lo. This is a production house making television programs, mainly for Belgian Television. I occupied myself with the writing of the scripts and directing the shooting of several programs.

From the first year on, students are obliged to prepare different kinds of tasks, such as: writing newspapers, magazines, publicity adds, preparing press conferences and as final task; a thesis. Together with another student, I made a video documentary about a circus school. We were responsible for the whole process, finding the budget, writing the synopsis, scenario shooting the images, editing the images.

Work Experience:

10th of May 2000- Present Caritas Secours International-International Hulpbetoon Belgium Kosovo Leposavic

Project Co-ordinator Essential shelter and non-food assistance through mobile teams founded by ECHO, European Community Humanitarian Office, in North Kosovo (Besides the Albanian enclaves this area consists of people from ethnic Serbia)

This project officially started the 1st of June 2000 with a budget of 420.000 EURO for a period of 6 months with 5,500 beneficiaries foreseen. The main items we distribute are hygiene kits, mattresses, blankets, stoves, clothes and shoes, besides this we also do some temporal resheltering of houses, which are in a bad condition.

As project co-ordinator I’m responsible for everything concerning this project: starting the project, employing the local staff, purchasing the items, organising distribution, management of staff, determining criteria, providing the vehicles and finding solutions for all financial and logistical problems.

We are working with a team of 24 persons, 22 local staff, 1 expatriated project assistant and myself. With this team we managed to reach between 6,500 and 7,000 beneficiaries.

Reasons to leave: The project is going very well, and the project assistant can take over. It is not interesting enough for me to continue, there are no more challenges for me.

Objectives :

During my time abroad I noticed how different you have to react when dealing with other cultures, compared with the Belgian culture I’m used to. Working abroad gives me an enthusiasm, and a motivation to perform 100% in the work I’m doing. I have now more than a year's experience and I would like to gain more. If you find my curriculum vitae interesting for your organisation, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
